Outdoor Adventure Trips & Events

Join Ole Miss Outdoors (OMOD) for one of our exciting adventure trips, educational clinics, skill-based certifications, or campus & community events. Many of our trips and events are designed for people of all abilities and skill levels. Participants must be enrolled as a University of Mississippi student, or be 18 years of age or older to participate in the trip program. If you have questions, please call the office at 662-915-6735. Current Policies & Procedures: 

  • The University requires face coverings in indoor public spaces on campus, regardless of vaccination status. Face coverings are not required outdoors. In Campus Recreation facilities, patrons may remove face coverings at their exercise station(s) or climbing wall.
  • All individuals must wear masks during shared transportation per CDC guidance (vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals).

Join us every Thursday February 3-April 28 (except Spring Break) for Kayak Polo. No experience or equipment necessary! Our leaders will teach you the skills you’ll need to participate in this fun game. 

February 8: 6-7:30 p.m.
Intro Climbing Clinic
Climbing Wall – SCRC
$5 Students / $10 Non-Students | Register
Our trained climbing wall instructors will teach you the basics of climbing in this fun and interactive clinic  No experience is required, all gear is included.

February 14: 5-7 p.m.
Partner Climb Night
Climbing Wall – SCRC
Free Event! Register
For Valentine’s Day our routesetters will set some fun partner problems! These problems require two people to climb.  Come out and give this unique climbing experience a try!

February 22: 6-8 p.m.
Lead Climbing Clinic
Climbing Wall – SCRC
$5 Students / $10 Non-Students | Register
Our trained climbing wall instructors will teach you the fundamentals of lead climbing.  After this clinic, you will have the skills to take our lead climbing test and become certified to lead climb at the OMOD Climbing Tower.  Must be Top Rope Belay Certified to take this course. Limited to 6 participants.

March 4: 3-6 p.m.
Rockin’ Rebel Climbing Comp
Climbing Wall – SCRC
$15 Students / $20 Non-Students | Register
Ole Miss Outdoors is hosting our annual Climbing Competition open to all! Compete in three categories for a chance to win some great prizes.  Categories include Recreational, Intermediate and Advanced.

March 8: 6-8 p.m.
Lead Belay Clinic
Climbing Wall – SCRC
$5 Students / $10 Non-Students | Register
Our trained climbing wall instructors will teach you the fundamentals of lead belaying.  At the end of this course you will have the skills necessary to take our Lead Belaying clinic and become certified to lead belay at the OMOD Climbing Tower.  Must be Lead Climbing Certified to take this course. Limited to 6 participants.

March 12-14
Caving & Biking Spring Break Trip
Tumbling Rock Cave & 
Monte Sano State Park, AL
$100 Students / $125 Non-Students | Register
Ole Miss Outdoors is hosting a 3-day Spring Break Trip! Join us as we explore the wild cave of Tumbling Rock in Alabama.  Wild caving requires a base level of fitness and the ability to vertically climb easy routes. 
We will be camping at the beautiful Monte Sano State Park, just outside of Huntsville, AL, where we will also explore the fantastic hiking and beginner friendly mountain biking trails.  Come out and enjoy a few days of your Spring Break with us!

April 1: 3-5 p.m.
Free Friday 
Rebel Challenge Course Register
Zip Line, Climb the Tower, Walk the Catwalk, or Fly like a Squirrel. Try these and other high elements at the ropes course. All participants must wear closed toe shoes and safely fit in a harness. Bring a friend to this free event! 

April 5: 6-8 p.m.

April 9: 10 a.m.
Trail Relay Marathon
South Campus Rail Trail
$20/Racer | Register 
A marathon relay is an event that covers 26.2 miles of distance. But instead of one person running all of those miles, a team completes the challenge together. Each relay team will consist of five people, and each team member will complete one leg of the race. 

April 12: 5:00 p.m.
The Great Egg Hunt
South Campus Rail Trail
Free – open to everyone Register
Choose from 2 events:
The Relay Race is for ages 8 and older. Teams of four people will run a relay race on the main gravel railbed trail. Teams can be any combination of gender, age (8 and older), and ability. Teammates will run a distance between .5 – 2 miles. The first team to have all four members cross the finish line will win the prize inside the Great Egg.
The Kid Egg Hunt is for ages 7 and under and is a traditional egg hunt for children to find eggs hidden along the trails. Parents should bring a basket and prepare to stay with their child(ren) at all times. 

April 19: 6-8 p.m.

May 1: 10 am – 1 p.m.

South Campus Rail Trail
$5 Students/ $10 Non-Students | Register
Join Ole Miss Outdoors for a day on our beautiful campus trails! Our trip leaders will lead you through the trail system that makes up the South Campus Rail Trail.
