Spring 2021 Operational Plans

Campus Recreation facility operations will be conducted based upon national, state, local, and university guidelines. Operational procedures outlined below will be revised as guidelines are updated. 

The health and safety of our patrons will be at the forefront of our operations, and your assistance in abiding by operational guidelines will be essential for service delivery.

Patrons must reserve their time slot by registering on the OleMissCR App or at www.IMLeagues.com/OleMiss. It is expected that patrons create their IMLeagues account and register for time slots prior to arriving to the facility. Please see instructions below (Facility Access section).


Available Facilities 

South Campus Recreation Center 

The South Campus Recreation Center (SCRC) will accommodate up to 97 patrons for each session. Each session is 60 minutes in duration. Patrons may register for one fitness session, activity session (basketball or soccer), and climbing session per day.   

Patrons will have the ability to register for activity sessions taking place on SCRC Court 1, SCRC Court 2(limited availability) or the Multi-activity Court. Each session is 60 minutes in duration and can accommodate up to 4 patrons for each session. Each basket/goal is limited to 2 individuals and patrons should bring their own ball. Masks should be worn when 6 feet distancing cannot be maintained. 

The South Campus Recreation Center group fitness studios and personal training suite will remain closed.   

The South Campus Recreation fields are open for use.  Social distancing (6’ distancing) is expected. Fields may be reserved for nightly Sport Club practices and will be offline for general use while clubs are practicing. No more than 25 patrons per field. 

Locker rooms will be closed. Patrons should arrive dressed to participate in their selected activity. 

Day use lockers will not be available for use. Patrons are asked to limit personal items that they bring to the facility and will be expected to keep all of their belongings in a personal bag that will remain with them at all times.

Turner Center Fitness Center, Court 4/Track, & Court 2 Basketball 

The Turner Center fitness areas will accommodate up to 40 patrons for each session. Each session is 60 minutes in duration. Patrons may register for one fitness session per day. 

Patrons will have the ability to register for fitness sessions taking place in the Turner Center Fitness Center or on Turner Center Court 4/Track. Some fitness equipment has been moved from the Fitness Center to Court 4 in order to promote physical distancing.   

Patrons will have the ability to register for basketball sessions taking place on Turner Center Court 2. Each session is 60 minutes in duration and can accommodate up to 4 patrons for each session. Each basket is limited to 2 individuals and patrons should bring their own ball.  Masks should be worn when 6 feet distancing cannot be maintained. 

All registered patrons for fitness sessions will be checked in on Court 3 of the Turner Center Gymnasium.

Turner Center Pool 

The Turner Center pool will accommodate up to 16 individual swimmers (1 per lane), 2 same household groups in quadrants within the shallow area, and 2 individuals in quadrants within the shallow area for each session. Each session is 45 minutes and patrons may register for one swimming session per day.

Turner Center Tennis Courts 

The tennis courts are open for use.  Social distancing (6’ distancing) is expected.  The lights can be turned on by the button near the entrance gate.  The lights will shut off at 10pm. 

South Campus Rail Trail 

The South Campus Rail Trail is located just south of Highway 6 and just west of Chucky Mullins Drive. Click here for a Google map link. Parking is available along Chucky Mullins and at the South Campus Recreation Center parking lot.  

  • The marked rail bed trail is 5 miles round trip (2.5 miles out and 2.5 miles back).  
  • Mile markers are placed every half mile on the main trail. Click here to view the trail map. 
  • The bike trails are open. 
  • Patrons should follow social distancing guidelines (6’ distancing) at all times. 
  • Water is not available on the trail at this time so please bring your own reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.
  • The fit stations (pullup bars) are open for use, with the following guidelines: 
    • Patrons must maintain at least six feet of distance from others when using the equipment.  
    • The outdoor equipment is not being sanitized by employees; therefore, it is highly recommended that patrons bring hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes with them. Patrons should use hand sanitizer before and after using the equipment, and wipe the equipment with sanitizing wipes before and after using the equipment. 

Blackburn-McMurray Outdoor Sports Complex 

Intramural Sports Fields 

The intramural fields are open for use.  Social distancing (6’ distancing) is expected. No more than 25 participants per field.  

Disc Golf Course 

The disc golf course is open for use.  Social distancing (6’ distancing) is expected. There should be no more than four participants per group. 

Fit Rig 

The Fit Rig fitness stations and equipment are open for use, with the following guidelines:

  • Patrons must maintain at least six feet of distance from others when using the equipment.
  • The outdoor equipment is not being sanitized by employees; therefore, it is highly recommended that patrons bring hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes with them. Patrons should use hand sanitizer before and after using the equipment, and wipe the equipment with sanitizing wipes before and after using the equipment.

Facility Access 

Patrons must reserve their time slot by registering on the OleMissCR App or at www.IMLeagues.com/OleMiss. It is expected that patrons create their IMLeagues account and register for time slots prior to arriving to the facility.  Please see the detailed “How To” below. 

**Community Members: To avoid any delays in your ability to register for upcoming activity sessions, please create your account as soon as you are able. Non-university affiliated accounts require administrator approval before you are able to start using your account. 

Patrons will still need to use their ID card to swipe in for facility access to ensure active membership. 

Staff will be available to assist patrons on-site with registration if they have already created an account. Please have your smartphone with the OleMissCR App already installed. If patrons prefer to use the desktop site to create their account/register and need assistance or are having trouble creating their account on the OleMissCR App, please call 662-915-4079 during operational hours or email campusrec@olemiss.edu.

Waitlist Information 

If a time slot has reached maximum capacity, patrons will have the opportunity join the waitlist for that given session. If any registered patrons leave a session, individuals on the waitlist will be automatically moved into the session in the order that they joined the waitlist and will receive an email confirmation. 

Individuals on the waitlist are welcome to arrive for the given session to attempt to be moved into the session if registered individuals do not show up. Registered patrons will be given a 5-minute grace period to arrive for their session. After the 5-minute grace period, individuals on the waitlist that are present will be moved into the session in the order that they joined the waitlist.   

Participation Requirements 

Patron cooperation will be essential in providing a safe and healthy facility environment. We will need your help with cleaning equipment, demonstrating appropriate hygiene, and cooperating with social distancing. 

  • Per Mississippi Executive Order 1480, all patrons must be screened for illness prior to entering the facility. 
  • Patrons should plan to arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to the beginning of their exercise time slot. There will be a five-minute facility access grace period after the beginning of the exercise time slot. After the five-minute grace period, individuals on the waitlist will have the opportunity to move into a session and those who were registered and did not arrive prior to the 5-minute grace period may be moved to the waitlist. If you are no longer able to attend this session, please “Unregister for Session” so that other individuals are able to join. 
  • Patrons must wear a face covering when entering/exiting the facility, moving to/from exercise stations, and maintain physical distancing of at least 6’.
  • All patrons must adhere to social distancing guidelines (6’ minimum between patrons/staff). 
  • Patrons must use designated facility entry/exit locations. 
  • Patrons should bring their own water bottles. Water bottle filling stations will be available, however, drinking fountains will be closed. 
  • Guests will not be allowed access to the facilities. Only valid UM ID holders and Campus Recreation members will be allowed facility access. 
  • All indoor common areas will be closed (i.e. SCRC atrium, Turner lower level lobby, Turner game room).
  • Equipment will not be available for checkout. Patrons should bring their own personal equipment (i.e. resistance bands, weight belts, exercise mats, kickboards, goggles, basketballs, soccer balls).  
  • Equipment will be marked with cones and/or signs to show being offline to maintain safe social distancing during operating hours.  
  • Restrooms will be available. Locker rooms and shower areas will be closed at the SCRC and open at the Turner Center. 
  • Day use lockers will be closed and locked. If you require a bag for your personal items, please be mindful of the size of your bag and item. Keep your bag and personal items with you during your activity session, as day lockers will not be available. 
  • Spray bottles and towels will be provided to each patron upon entry. Patrons will be expected to spray and wipe each piece of equipment before and after use. There is a 45 second “kill time” for the disinfecting spray. Patrons should return the towel and spray bottle to the control desk before departing the facility. 
  • Hand sanitizer stations will be available throughout the facility and should be used upon entry and exit of the facility and when moving between exercise equipment. 
  • Patrons may register for one session a day for each activity. This means that patrons may register for one fitness session, swimming session, climbing session, and activity(basketball/soccer) session in a given day. 

Memberships 

All Campus Recreation members who had active memberships as of March 13, 2020 will have their membership extended for five additional months. All questions regarding membership expirations should be forward to memberservices@olemiss.edu.  

All paperwork/payments must be done online through our website or during designated office hours. Campus Recreation will not conduct cash transactions.

Aquatics 

Use of the Pool 

  • Patrons must reserve their time slot by registering on the OleMissCR App or at www.IMLeagues.com/OleMiss. It is expected that patrons create their IMLeagues account and register time slots prior to arriving to the facility. 
  • Patrons are required to present their University issued ID to a staff member upon entry to the facility. 
  • Patrons can reserve a 45 time slot to swim during the following hours: 
    • Monday-Friday: 6am-8am, 11am-7pm; Saturday-Sunday: 2pm-4pm 
      • The deep end will not be able to be reserved from 3pm-7pm, Monday-Friday.  
    • Patrons should plan to arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to the beginning of their exercise time slot. There will be a five-minute facility access grace period after the beginning of the exercise time slot. Facility access will not be permitted after the five-minute grace period. The access doors will be closed until the 45-minute reservation period is over.  
    • Individuals can sign up for one lane per day. There will be eight lanes available in the Deep End and the Lap Lane section (middle section) of the pool.  
    • There will be two individual use quadrants available in the Shallow End. 
    • Family units who have family memberships will be allowed to sign up for one quadrant in the Shallow End. Only two quadrants in the Shallow End will be available each session.  
    • Patrons will be required to enter through the rear entrance doors of the Turner Center, which will be clearly labeled. 
    • Patrons are required to wear face coverings when entering and exiting the Turner Center. Individuals will be required to keep the face covering on until they have reached their reserved lane. 
    • The diving board will be off limits during this time.  
    • Locker rooms will be available. Patrons should maintain social distance while utilizing locker rooms space. 
    • Storage space will be clearly marked on the pool deck. Individuals will be able to store items on the pool deck while they swim, en lieu of lockers. 
    • Guest passes are not available at this time.  
    • Hand sanitizer stations will be placed around the pool deck.  
    • Patrons are allowed to leave at any time during their 45-minute reservation. At the end of the 45-minute reservation, a lifeguard will blow a whistle informing individuals that the pool should be cleared.  
    • Patrons will exit through clearly labeled doors leading to the back of the Turner Center.   

Equipment Usage 

  •  Limited equipment (I.e., kickboards, noodles, etc.) will be available for use. Patrons will need to ask lifeguards before utilizing equipment. Patrons should bring their own goggles, as none will be given to patrons by staff. 
  • All items that are left at the end of each shift will be thoroughly cleaned and placed in a lost and found box.   

Swim Lessons 

  • Swim lessons will not be offered by Campus Recreation at this time. 

Lifeguard Courses 

  • American Red Cross lifeguard courses will not be offered by Campus Recreation at this time.  

Towel Service 

  • Towels will be available for patrons who have paid for locker/towel service.  
  • Individuals will be limited to two towels per day.  

Facility Operations 

  • Please see Participation Requirements listed above 
  • Patrons must wear a face covering when entering/exiting the facility, moving to/from exercise stations, and maintain physical distancing of at least 6’. 
  • Patrons must stay in your assigned exercise zone during your selected workout time slot.  
  • Patrons are required to present their University issued ID upon entry of the facility. 
  • Spray bottles and towels will be provided to each patron upon entry. Patrons will be expected to spray and wipe each piece of equipment before and after use. There is a 45 second “kill time” for disinfecting spray. Patrons should return the towel and spray bottle to the control desk before departing the facility.  
  • Hand sanitizer stations will be placed throughout the facilities. 
  • Equipment checkout will not be available.  
  • Basketball courts and the Multi-activity Court (MAC) are available to be reserved for a 1 hour long activity session for no more than 2 individuals per goal. 
  • Court 1 in Turner will be used for pickleball or badminton. 
  • Court 2 in Turner will be used for basketball session use. 
  • Court 3 in Turner will be used for group fitness classes. 
  • Court 4 in Turner will be a cardio fitness area. 
  • Racquetball courts are available by reservation only for same-household members. Racquetball court reservation requests should be submitted to campusrec@olemiss.edu 
  • Turner Center track is available for use. Patrons should register for a Turner Center Court 4 & Track session in order to utilize the track. 
  • Restrooms and locker rooms will be available at the Turner Center. Locker rooms/shower will not be available at SCRC. 

South Campus Recreation Center 

  • Day use lockers will be closed and locked. If you require a bag for your personal items, please be mindful of the size of your bag and item. Keep your bag and personal items with you during your activity session, as day lockers will not be available.  
  • Patrons will enter through doors near the POD (east side of SCRC). 
  • Please be sure to follow social distancing guidelines. 
  • Patrons will exit through the main doors adjacent to the bus loop at the SCRC. 

Turner Center 

  • Patrons will enter the main entry doors of the Turner Center if using the fitness areas. 
  • Please be sure to follow social distancing guidelines.  
  • Academic courses have priority when reserving space.  
  • Auditorium 205-reservations not being taken for this area  

Turner Center – The Well  

  • The Well will be closed until further notice 

Fitness 

  • Patrons must wear a face covering when entering/exiting the facility, moving to/from exercise stations, and maintain physical distancing of at least 6’. 
  • Spray bottles and towels will be provided to each patron upon entry. Patrons will be expected to spray and wipe each piece of equipment before and after use. There is a 45 second “kill time” for disinfecting spray. Patrons should return the towel and spray bottle to the control desk before departing the facility.  
  • Equipment without the ability to be thoroughly cleaned between activity sessions has been removed from the floor space, or marked as offline.  
  • Patrons should bring their own water bottles. Water bottle filling stations will be available, however, drinking fountains will be closed.  
  • Equipment that is marked with an orange cone is offline for cleaning/social distancing purposes.  
  • Offline weight trees and weight horns storing plates are marked with signage and zip ties to prevent removal of plates. Patrons may not remove zip ties or signage to access these weights. Please use weights which are online. 
  • Exercise mats are not available at this time. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own fitness mat for stretching or floor exercises.  
  • Small equipment items, such as weight belts, jump ropes, resistance bands, etc., will not be checked out at this time. Please bring your own equipment if needed for your workout.  
  • Spotting is permitted so long as individuals are wearing masks due to 6’ social distancing not being able to be maintained. Cleaning between sets and use of hand sanitizer is highly encouraged.  

Group Fitness

The Department of Campus Recreation and Ole Miss Fitness are excited to be able to offer both in-person and virtual group fitness classes! Pre-registration will be required for each class through our OleMissCR app. Class registration opens the day before and will remain open until the time of class or the class is full. Participants can be added to the waitlist once the class is full. Participants are encouraged to bring their own fitness/yoga mat, sweat towel and water bottle to each class. 

In effort to keep our university community safe, in-person group fitness classes will take place outdoors or indoor locations with adequate room for social distancing, and be limited to 15 or fewer until further notice. Classes will take place on the SCRC patio, SCRC outdoor turf, SCRC Multi-Activity Court or in the Turner Center, on court 3 or studio 305. The SCRC Multi-Activity Court will be used for the inclement or cold weather location of outdoor classes. Virtual classes will be accessed using the Zoom link emailed with the class registration confirmation email from the OleMissCR app. Click here for more group fitness schedule information.   

  • The schedule will be released monthly to accommodate the COVID-19 changing policies from state, local and university ordinances specific to exercising/group fitness settings.
  • Participants should check in at the designated SCRC or Turner Center check in area. Please arrive early for class. 
  • A face covering will not be required for group fitness classes as adequate social distancing will be maintained. Face covering over the mouth and nose is required when in transition throughout the facility, and prior to exercise occurring in the class.
  • Virtual group fitness classes will be available for some formats for the spring semester. Registration will still occur on the OleMissCR app and the Zoom link to access the class will be included in the email confirming you registered for the class. 
  • New this spring, no instructor will be available to chat or monitor virtual group fitness class participants. The Zoom link will give access to join and participate on your own, with no guided instruction directed to individual participants on the Zoom call. 

Small Group Training/Personal Training

The Department of Campus Recreation and Ole Miss Fitness are excited to be able to offer both in-person personal training sessions and in-person small group training sessions! Pre-registration is required for both of these training options. Modifications for training have been made to keep our university community, student trainers and instructors safe. 

Sessions can take place at our outdoor or indoor locations to allow adequate room for social distancing. Personal training sessions will be capped with a maximum of two clients and one trainer, and Small Group Training sessions will be limited to 10 or less, including any trainers or instructors. Health screenings will take place at the beginning of each PT or SGT session. Clients must follow all facility policies and adhere to safe social distancing and face covering practices when working with their trainers. 

  • At this time, there is a waitlist to be paired with a Personal Trainer for Spring2021. 
  • Policies will be updated as the ordinances from state, local and the University entities change due to COVID-19. We will make the best decisions in continuing in-person Small Group Training, and in-person personal training session in order to keep both our clients and trainers safe.

Outdoors 

Bouldering & Climbing Wall 

  • The bouldering wall and climbing wall are operational for Spring 2021.  
  • Climbers must hold a current Climb Pass and utilize the OleMissCR App to register for a session. The schedule of bouldering & climbing session reservation times can be found here.  A Climb Only membership is available beginning Jan. 19. 
  • Climbers will enter through the OMOD external door (in the rear of the SCRC) and check in at the office; climbers will queue in the office prior to their session, check in with the staff, and become educated on policies and procedures before climbing. 
  • Climbers must wear a face covering at all times and maintain physical distancing of at least 6 feet.
  • At the conclusion of the session time, climbers will exit through the OMOD exterior door. 

Gear Rentals

  • Gear rentals are by appointment during operating hours found here; to request gear, patrons must complete the request form here; once the form is submitted, a staff member will email the payment link and directions.  
  • On the day of the appointment, patrons will park behind the SCRC in the designated space, call the office (662-915-6735) and remain in their vehicle. A staff member will deliver the gear curbside (for boats, patrons may assist the staff member while wearing a face mask). 

Trips & Events

  • All Spring 2021 trips and events are located within Lafayette County, MS.  Participants must register online for trips and events; the schedule and registration links can be found here. Participants will attend any pre-trip meetings via Zoom and provide their own transportation to and from all trips and events.
  • Once participants arrive at the trip/event site, social distancing guidelines and face covering protocols set forth by the University will be maintained during the entirety of the trip/event.  

Challenge Course & In-Person Team Building 

  • The Rebel Challenge Course and in-person team building are not offered at this time due to the physical proximity participants must be in to accomplish elements and activities. 

Virtual Team Building 

  • Virtual Team Building will continue to be offered during the spring semester.  Information about this program can be found here.   

South Campus Rail Trail 

  • The main rail bed trail and bike trails are open. Trail users must stay at least six feet away from others at all times or wear a mask when/if it is not possible to maintain at least six feet from other people. Water is not available on the trail at this time so please bring your own reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. More information on the trail can be found here. 

Intramural Sports 

Intramural Sports registration will open on Thursday, January 14th at 12:00 p.m. The full schedule and instructions on purchasing a play pass can be found here

Sport Clubs 

Sport Clubs competitions, both home and away, are suspended until further notice. Sport clubs are permitted to practice starting Tuesday, January 19th with modifications to accommodate for COVID-19 restrictions.
