COVID-19 Resources & Reopening Plans

Campus Recreation facilities will reopen July 13th. Facility operations will be conducted based upon national, state, local, and university guidelines. Operational procedures will be revised as guidelines are updated. 

The health and safety of our patrons will be at the forefront of our operations, and your assistance in abiding by operational guidelines will be essential for service delivery. 

Patrons must reserve their time slot by registering on the OleMissCR App or at www.IMLeagues.com/OleMiss. It is expected that patrons create their IMLeagues account and register for time slots prior to arriving to the facility. Please see instructions below (Facility Access section).

Available Facilities 

South Campus Recreation Center 

The South Campus Recreation Center will accommodate up to 68 patrons for each time slot. Each time slot is 60 minutes in duration. Patrons may register for one time slot per day.  

The South Campus Recreation Center basketball courts, multi-activity (MAC) court, group fitness studios, and personal training suite will remain closed. Top rope climbing will not be permitted.  

Locker rooms will be closed. Patrons should arrive dressed to participate in their selected activity. 

Day use lockers will not be available for use. Patrons are asked to limit personal items that they bring to the facility and will be expected to keep all of their belongings in a personal bag that will remain with them at all times.

Turner Center Pool 

The Turner Center pool will accommodate up to 15 individual swimmers (1 per lane) and 2 same household groups in quadrants within the shallow area for each time slot. Each time slot is 45 minutes and patrons can register for one time slot per day. Patrons can register for one of 3 sections listed below:

Locker rooms will be closed. Individuals will be able to retrieve items from their lockers in the Turner Center locker rooms Mondays through Fridays from July 6 through July 24 between 9am-10:45am and 3pm-3:45pm. Patrons should arrive dressed to participate in their selected activity. Towels will be available for members who have locker/towel service. 

The pool is the only area within the Turner Center that will be open to patrons. 

Turner Center Tennis Courts 

The tennis courts are open for use.  Social distancing (6’ distancing) is expected.  The lights have been turned off and the middle courts have no nets at this point in time. 

South Campus Rail Trail 

The South Campus Rail Trail is located just south of Highway 6 and just west of Chucky Mullins Drive. Click here for a Google map link. Parking is available along Chucky Mullins and at the South Campus Recreation Center parking lot.  

  • The marked rail bed trail is 5 miles round trip (2.5 miles out and 2.5 miles back).  
  • Mile markers are placed every half mile on the main trail. Click here to view the trail map. 
  • The bike trails are open. 
  • Patrons should follow social distancing guidelines (6’ distancing) at all times. 
  • Water is not available on the trail at this time so please bring your own reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. 
  • The fit stations (pullup bars) are closed until further notice. 

Blackburn-McMurray Outdoor Sports Complex 

Intramural Sports Fields 

The intramural fields are open for use.  Social distancing (6’ distancing) is expected. 

Disc Golf Course 

The disc golf course is open for use.  Social distancing (6’ distancing) is expected. There should be no more than four participants per group. 

Fit Rig 

The Fit Rig fitness stations and equipment are closed at this time. 


Facility Access 

Patrons must reserve their time slot by registering on the OleMissCR App or at www.IMLeagues.com/OleMiss. It is expected that patrons create their IMLeagues account and register for time slots prior to arriving to the facility.  Please see the detailed “How To” below. 

**Community Members: To avoid any delays in your ability to register for upcoming activity sessions, please create your account as soon as you are able. Non-university affiliated accounts require administrator approval before you are able to start using your account. 

Patrons will still need to use their ID card to swipe in for facility access to ensure active membership. 

Staff will be available to assist patrons on-site with registration if they have already created an account. Please have your smartphone with the OleMissCR App already installed. If patrons prefer to use the desktop site to create their account/register and need assistance or are having trouble creating their account on the OleMissCR App, please call 662-915-4079 during operational hours or email campusrec@olemiss.edu.

Participation Requirements 

Patron cooperation will be essential in providing a safe and healthy facility environment. We will need your help with cleaning equipment, demonstrating appropriate hygiene, and cooperating with social distancing. 

  • Per Mississippi Executive Order 1480, all patrons must be screened for illness prior to entering the facility. 
  • Patrons should plan to arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to the beginning of their exercise time slot. There will be a five-minute facility access grace period after the beginning of the exercise time slot. Facility access will not be permitted after the five-minute grace period. 
  • All patrons must adhere to social distancing guidelines (6’ minimum between patrons/staff). 
  • Patrons must wear a face covering when entering/exiting the facility and moving between exercise stations. Face coverings will not be required while exercising. 
  • Patrons must use designated facility entry/exit locations. 
  • Patrons should bring their own water bottles. Water bottle filling stations will be available, however, drinking fountains will be closed. 
  • Guests will not be allowed access to the facilities. Only valid UM ID holders and Campus Recreation members will be allowed facility access. 
  • All indoor common areas will be closed (i.e. SCRC atrium, Turner lower level lobby, Turner game room). Basketball courts and MAC court at SCRC will also be closed. 
  • Equipment will not be available for checkout. Patrons should bring their own personal equipment (i.e. resistance bands, weight belts, exercise mats, kickboards, goggles). 
  • Equipment will be marked with cones and/or signs to show being offline to maintain safe social distancing during operating hours. At the SCRC, equipment marked with orange cones is offline. 
  • Restrooms will be available, however, locker rooms and shower areas will be closed. 
  • Day use lockers will be closed and locked. If you require a bag for your personal items, please be mindful of the size of your bag and item. Keep your bag and personal items with you during your activity session, as day lockers will not be available. 
  • Spray bottles and towels will be provided to each patron upon entry. Patrons will be expected to spray and wipe each piece of equipment before and after use. There is a 45 second “kill time” for the disinfecting spray. Patrons should return the towel and spray bottle to the control desk before departing the facility. 
  • Hand sanitizer stations will be available throughout the facility and should be used upon entry and exit of the facility and when moving between exercise equipment. 

Memberships 

All Campus Recreation members who had active memberships as of March 13, 2020 will have their membership extended for five additional months. Campus Recreation is extending memberships for the four months that facilities were closed for COVID-19 and will be adding one additional month free of charge since there will likely be limitations on facility access through at least the fall semester. Locker/towel service at Turner Center will also be extended.  

There will be a $25 student membership fee (July 13-August 23) for students who are not enrolled in summer online courses. No cash payments, card only. https://campusrec.olemiss.edu/membership-opportunities/ 

All paperwork/payments must be done online through our website. Campus Recreation will not conduct cash transactions.

Aquatics 

Use of the Pool 

  • Patrons must reserve their time slot by registering on the OleMissCR App or at www.IMLeagues.com/OleMiss. It is expected that patrons create their IMLeagues account and register time slots prior to arriving to the facility. 
  • Patrons are required to present their University issued ID to a staff member upon entry to the facility. 
    • Patrons can reserve a 45 time slot to swim during the following hours: 
      • Monday-Friday: 7am-9am, 11am-1pm, 4pm-6pm 
      • Saturday-Sunday: 2pm-4pm 
  • Patrons should plan to arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to the beginning of their exercise time slot. There will be a five-minute facility access grace period after the beginning of the exercise time slot. Facility access will not be permitted after the five-minute grace period. The access doors will be closed until the 45-minute reservation period is over.  
  • Individuals can sign up for one lane per day. There will be seven lanes available in the Deep End, while eight lanes will be available in the Recreation section (middle section) of the pool. 
  • Family units who have family memberships will be allowed to sign up for one quadrant in the Shallow End. Only two quadrants in the Shallow End will be available each session.  
  • Patrons will be required to enter through the rear entrance doors of the Turner Center, which will be clearly labeled. 
  • Patrons are required to wear face coverings when entering and exiting the Turner Center. Individuals will be required to keep the face covering on until they have reached their reserved lane. 
  • The diving board will be off limits during this time.  
  • Locker rooms will not be available. Individuals will be able to retrieve items from their lockers in the Turner Center locker rooms Mondays through Fridays from July 6 through July 24 between 9am-10:45am and 3pm-3:45pm. 
  • Individuals who need to use the restroom will be allowed to use the Family Use Restroom, located on the first floor (past the Faculty/Staff Men’s Locker Room entrance). 
  • Storage space will be clearly marked on the pool deck. Individuals will be able to store items on the pool deck while they swim, en lieu of lockers. 
  • Guest passes are not available at this time.  
  • Hand sanitizer stations will be placed around the pool deck.  
  • Patrons are allowed to leave at any time during their 45-minute reservation. At the end of the 45-minute reservation, a lifeguard will blow a whistle informing individuals that the pool should be cleared.  
  • Patrons will exit through clearly labeled doors leading to the back of the Turner Center.  

Equipment Usage 

  • Patrons should bring their own personal equipment (i.e. kickboards, goggles). No equipment will be available for checkout. 
    • All items that are left at the end of each shift will be thoroughly cleaned and placed in a lost and found box.  

Swim Lessons 

  • Swim lessons will not be offered by Campus Recreation at this time. 

Towel Service 

  • Towels will be available for patrons who have paid for locker/towel service.  
  • Individuals will be limited to two towels per day.  

Facility Operations 

  • Please see Participation Requirements listed above. 
  • Patrons must stay in your assigned exercise zone during your selected workout time slot. 
  • Patrons are required to present their University issued ID upon entry of the facility.

There is a 45 second “kill time” for disinfecting spray. Patrons should return the towel and spray bottle to the control desk before departing the facility.

  • Equipment checkout will not be available. 
  • Basketball courts and the MAC court are closed. 
  • Restrooms will be available, however, locker rooms and shower areas will be closed. Towels will only be available at the pool for members with locker/towel service. 
  • Patrons will be able to retrieve items from their lockers in the Turner Center locker rooms Mondays through Fridays from July 6 through July 24 between 9am-10:45am and 3pm-3:45pm. 
  • Day use lockers will be closed and locked. If you require a bag for your personal items, please be mindful of the size of your bag and item. Keep your bag and personal items with you during your activity session, as day lockers will not be available. 
  • Exiting the facility: Please be sure to follow social distancing guidelines. Patrons will exit through the main doors adjacent to the bus loop at the SCRC.  
  • Facility space reservations will not be accepted during July 2020 but can be submitted beginning August 3.  Limited space will be available. Academic courses have priority when reserving space. 

Fitness 

  • Patrons must wear a face covering when entering/exiting the facility and moving between exercise stations. Face coverings will not be required while exercising. 
  • Spray bottles and towels will be provided to each patron upon entry. Patrons will be expected to spray and wipe each piece of equipment before and after use. There is a 45 second “kill time” for disinfecting spray. Patrons should return the towel and spray bottle to the control desk before departing the facility. 
  • Equipment without the ability to be thoroughly cleaned between activity sessions has been removed from the floor space, or marked as offline. 
  • Patrons should bring their own water bottles. Water bottle filling stations will be available, however, drinking fountains will be closed. 
  • Equipment that is marked with an orange cone is offline for cleaning/social distancing purposes. 
  • Exercise mats are not available at this time. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own fitness mat for stretching or floor exercises. 
  • Small equipment items, such as weight belts, jump ropes, resistance bands, etc., will not be checked out at this time. Please bring your own equipment if needed for your workout. 
  • Spotting is not permitted. Participants are asked to lift only the weight that they can comfortably and safely lift without assistance. 
  • No in-person group fitness classes or personal training sessions will occur at this time.  
  • Access to Ole Miss Fitness’ Virtual Facebook private group is provided for current UM students, Faculty and Staff members with a current UM email address. Request access to join the group for approval to become a member. 

Outdoors 

Bouldering Wall 

  • Patrons must reserve their time slot by registering on the OleMissCR App or at www.IMLeagues.com/OleMiss. It is expected that patrons create their IMLeagues account and register for time slots prior to arriving to the facility. 
  • Park in the rear of the South Campus Recreation Center and enter through the OMOD office door. 
  • Check in at the desk, rent climbing shoes if needed, and queue in the spaces indicated until it is time to climb. 
  • Bouldering is currently permitted; top rope climbing is not yet open.  
  • Each session is limited to 6 individual climbers and 2 families. 
    • Monday-Friday, Session 1 is from 4:30-5:30 pm and Session 2 is from 6:00-7:00 pm.   
    • Saturday-SundaySession 1 is from 2:30-3:30 pm and Session 2 is from 4:00-5:00 pm.     
  • Patrons must wear a face covering when entering/exiting the facility and moving between bouldering stations.  
  • Face coverings will not be required while bouldering. 

 

Gear Rentals & Returns 

  • Gear rentals and merchandise sales are by appointment during our operating hours. 
  • Summer operating Hours are Monday-Friday, 4:30-7:00 pm, and Saturday-Sunday2:30-5:00 pm  
    • Please email your preferred appointment day/time and gear requests to omod@olemiss.edu.

    • Once you make your appointment, a staff member will email you a link to complete payment online. 
    • At your appointment time, pull up to the rear of the SCRC and park in front of the garage door adjacent to the OMOD office. 
    • Stay in your vehicle and call the OMOD office at 662-915-6735; a staff member will bring your gear to your vehicle.  
    • Gear returns are also by appointment during our operating hours; please email your requested appointment day/time to omod@olemiss.edu.
    • At your appointment time, pull up to the rear of the SCRC and park in front of the garage door adjacent to the OMOD office.
    • Stay in your vehicle and call the office at 662-915-6735; a staff member will come to your vehicle to receive the gear. 

Team Building Sessions

No Intramural Sport activities at this time. The Fall Intramural Sport Calendar and new protocols and procedures will be released in August.
