South Campus Recreation Center (SCRC)
The South Campus Recreation Center is located at the former Whirlpool factory property. The 98,000 SF facility includes an abundant amount of fitness space (25,000 SF), 6,000 SF functional training zone (4,000 SF inside, 2,000 SF outside), three fitness studios, two basketball courts, a multi-activity court, walking/jogging track, classroom with demonstration kitchen, an indoor climbing wall with a bouldering area and a convenience store.
Services for wellness education, outdoor programming, and personal training also have dedicated spaces. Two fields for intramural sports and sport clubs are located adjacent to the facility. A sidewalk links the building to the South Campus Rail Trail, providing indoor and outdoor recreational options for our community.
Administrative offices for both the Department of Campus Recreation and the Department of Parking and Transportation Services are housed at the facility. The facility serves as a campus transportation hub, with over 700 parking spaces, service on the O.U.T. bus lines, and shuttles to main campus.
The 155,000 sq. ft. recreation facility opened in March of 1983. The Department of Campus Recreation and the Department of Health Exercise Science and Recreation Management are housed in the facility. Activity areas within the Turner Center are listed below.
Gymnasium: Accommodating four basketball courts, two volleyball courts, and three badminton courts.
Jogging Track: Elevated track around perimeter of gymnasium. 8.5 laps = 1 mile.
Fitness Center: 10,000 sq. ft. facility offering free-weights, selectorized resistance weights, and cardiovascular machines.
Group Fitness Studio 305: The largest studio, accommodating a variety of group fitness classes.
Natatorium: Two 25 yard, 8-lane swim areas plus a shallow activity area. Pool depth ranges from 3.5 ft to 13 ft.
Studios 125 & 125 Cycle: These studios accommodate TRX and cycle classes.
Racquetball Courts: Three courts; two courts can accommodate Wallyball.
Squash Court: One court, located in the first court on the left.
The Tank: A re-purposed racquetball court with functional training equipment; open during Fitness Center hours.
The Vault: A re-purposed racquetball court with various circuit equipment; open during programmed classes.
Game Room: Offering ping pong tables, TV’s, Xbox’s and plenty of relaxing space.
Pickleball & Tennis Courts
Eight(8) pickleball and three(3) tennis courts are located to the southwest of the Turner Center. Used for academic classes and recreational use for UM students, faculty, and staff. The courts should only be utilized for pickleball/tennis-related activities to avoid damage to the surfacing. Courts are available for reservation by campus departments and student organizations for special events.
Blackburn-McMurray Outdoor Sports Complex
Intramural Fields: Located past the Gillom Sports Complex on Insight Park Drive. Fields are available for Intramural events as well as recreational use. Reservations for the fields can be made through the online submission form.
Sport Club Fields: Located past the Gillom Sports Complex on Insight Park Drive. Fields are available for Sport Club practices and matches only, and are not available for recreational reservations.
Sand Volleyball Courts: Two lighted volleyball courts located past the Gillom Sports Complex. Fields are available for Intramural events as well as recreational use. Reservations for the courts can be made through the online submission form.
Disc Golf Course: Twenty-three hole Frisbee Golf course located throughout the Outdoor Sports Complex. Course is available for recreational, Intramural & sport club use.
The Fit Rig: Located adjacent to the sport club fields, the Fit Rig is a MoveStrong FitGround that allows participants to experience functional training in an outdoor setting. This facility features various elements including cargo nets, balance beams, adjustable bars, plyometric platforms, and much more. The Fit Rig is open to University members with an Ole Miss ID card, and group fitness classes are offered seasonally; check the group fitness schedule for information.
