Lifeguard Courses
Earn an American Red Cross lifeguard certification through Campus Rec! Our lifeguard certification course is designed to ensure that you are properly trained and prepared in the event of a water emergency.
Lifeguard Course Details
During open registration periods (see chart below), you can register/purchase your spot in a course by clicking HERE.
Course participants must meet the following requirements:
- Be 15 years or older
- Attend all 3 days of the training
- Complete the self-paced 7-hour American Red Cross Lifeguarding Blended-Learning portion of the course before the first in-class meeting (which will be provided by the course instructor the week leading up to the class)
- Complete a waiver and release of liability on the day of the first class meeting
- Wear proper swim attire during the course (participants are highly encouraged to bring their own towel)
- Be able to:
- Swim 300 yards while continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing, using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both (goggles may be used)
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs
- Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds
- Pass multiple-choice CPR/First Aid/AED and Lifeguarding tests with at least an 80%

Recertification Course Details

Course participants must meet the following requirements:
- Must hold a current (non-expired) American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification
- Be 15 years or older
- Complete a waiver and release of liability on the day of the first class meeting
- Wear proper swim attire during the course (participants are highly encouraged to bring their own towel)
- Be able to:
- Swim 300 yards while continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing, using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both (goggles may be used)
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs
- Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds
- Show proficiency in lifeguarding skills
- Pass multiple-choice CPR/First Aid/AED and Lifeguarding tests with at least an 80%

Refund Policy
Full refunds will only be granted prior to the prerequisite swim test or up to 72 hours before the first class. Refunds will not be available following the prerequisite swim test or less than 72 hours prior to the course unless the participant finds a substitute to take their place for the course. If a substitute is found, that person (the substitute participant) must register with the Assistant Director of Aquatics and pay in full. Once the substitute participant has paid in full, the original participant will receive a full (100%) refund. After the first class meeting, any refund will be reviewed by the Assistant Director of Aquatics. Please email Aquatics to request a refund.
